Safeguarding Your Process Against Gas and Vapor Explosions

Many industries use flammable chemicals (liquids and/or gases) and chemical mixtures in their process. In order to ensure safety of a process where flammable gas and vapor exists, it is very important that the flammability characteristics of the chemical and/or chemical mixtures under the actual process conditions be determined. Process conditions such as high pressure, high temperature, high oxidant concentration, special ingredient, and turbulent flow can significantly affect the flammability characteristics of the gas/vapor mixture. This article summarizes several studies undertaken at our laboratory to ensure safety of a process against gas/vapor explosions.
